SMC2 innovates by proposing a cost effective and environmentally friendly concept: the temperate gymnasium up to 12°C designed for dynamic sports.

These gymnasiums are suitable for dynamic sports (hand-ball, basketball, futsal, volleyball, badminton…) for daily use all year round.

They can temporarily be heated to 16°C for some specific events during the year.
To guarantee you versatile use, we propose to complete these temperate spaces by a hall heated to 16°C for static sports use (gymnastics, dance, martial arts…). This hall makes it possible for all sports to be practised in specialised spaces. Temperate gymnasiums are built using single or double walled textile covers.

The thermal comfort of sports halls and pitches is provided by gas radiant panels combined with an exclusive SMC2 air handling system.

TECHNICALLY

The design of a temperate gymnasium combines high environmental and architectural quality: it combines a glue-laminated timber structure with a translucent textile membrane roof.
Our textile membrane roofs have a 17 year guarantee. Their curved shapes inspired by the world’s major sports facilities are intemporal.
The air handling and double-walled roof provide thermal comfort without any risk of condensation

FINANCIALLY

Temperate gyms are up to 50% more cost effective to invest in than a gymnasium heated to 16°C. With these savings, local authorities can build a specialised hall for static sports heated to 16°C in addition to the temperate gymnasium.

ECOLOGICALLY

Our optimised building systems using textile membranes combined with a rational use of energy to regulate building temperatures make it possible to build a structure with a very low investment and operational environmental impact. Our structures have a life cycle analysis that validates the environmental performance of our techniques.

The facades are studied jointly with the architects to allow the structure to merge perfectly into its context and its site with compositions using all wall coverings: metal, wood, composite or mineral cladding… The textile facades can be screen printed to customise the structure and stage it.

TESTIMONY

 

In Coignières a second gymnasium was created a few months ago. Marion Evrard, the Town’s elected Sports Department representative, explains why they chose the SMC2 temperate gymnasium.

 

WHY DID YOU WANT TO BUILD A SECOND GYMNASIUM?

Our first gymnasium is more than 30 years old and it has become too small for our needs, which are those of a city of 4,500 people. It is used by primary schools, the college and various sports associations that did not have enough slots. We have therefore decided to create a second multisports hall.

CAN YOU DESCRIBE THIS NEW FACILITY FOR US?

First of all, it was impossible to join both structures together because the first gymnasium has a large glazed surface area on one side. We therefore chose to build it just next to it, adding a small corridor between the two and a closed airlock to join the two facilities. The sports area has a classic multi-sports hall where basketball, volleyball, handball or badminton can be played. For this space, we chose the SMC2 concept. We also built changing rooms and an extra storage room.

We had heard about this alternative to a traditional gymnasium, in particular this stretched textile system.
