Since 2003, SMC2 has been designing and building timber and metal structures, innovating shells such as textile membranes and composite facings or more traditional solutions such as wood or metal cladding. As France’s leading builder of sports and leisure buildings, the company also offers solutions for schools, nurseries, libraries… as well as offices and industrial buildings.
The SMC2’s UK subsidiary was set up in 2017 and due to constant growth and development, SMC2 is now looking appoint a new Technical Sales Engineer.
As SMC2’s Technical Sales Engineer, you will act as a brand ambassador at all time. Your main responsibility will be to develop and grow Sales Turn Over in your area. You are a high achiever who exceeds at meeting and overachieving sales target. You are customer centric with a strong sales strategic vision, excellent business acumen and you also have strong technical knowledge in construction, wood and/or architectural solutions.
You will report directly to the Export Director based in France.
As SMC2’s Technical Sales Engineer your main responsabilities will be:
Implement UK Sales Strategy
- You will develop, grow and maintain existing and new relationships with Key partners such as Architects, Engineering firm, Contractors, Councils…,

- You will attend any Trade shows and Business Events relevant to the industry,
- You will define and implement the UK Communication strategy, working closely with the Communication Manager and the Export Director:
- You will organise e-mail campaigns on targeted clients/leads and contractors,
- You will organise Business trips showcasing SMC2 architectural products and solutions around the country and abroad.
You will conduct teams meetings
- A quick everyday catchup point with the Sales Assistant to prioritise daily actions,
- Weekly meeting with Pre-Sales team to define targets and objectives,
- Monthly Sales meeting in HQ in France (2 to 3 days).
- As a Technical Sales Engineer, you will also carry out, show case and prescribe new products and innovations to clients and leads.
Understand client needs
- Qualify new leads coming from the website, inbound call or network i.e: who is the client? What does he do? What does he need? What is the best possible way SMC2 solutions will respond to its requirement? sales action requirement? follow-up,
- Identify and expand on sales opportunities through B2B relationships management,
- Actively network with key decisions makers and organise sales presentation, video and face to face meeting to promote SMC2 range of products,
- You will update CRM on a daily basis.
Define, introduce and sale SMC2 solutions
- You will show case existing SMC2 architectural solution to potential clients by organising site visits,
- In collaboration with the Pre-Sale team, you will design and built a first technical project while respecting strict dead line,
- Organise face to face meeting with clients,
- Advise clients on Tenders procedure.
Tenders
- Set up the team who will reply to tender by identifying Key partners and contractors,
- Prepare and set up the final offer with the technical and Admin team (you will work with Pre-Sales and Commercial team to define technical and admin requirement),
- Under the Export Director supervision, pilot and manage negotiation and strategic decision,
- Under the Export Director supervision, you will finalise the offer ready for signature by the client,
- When offer is signed, you will liaise with the Construction engineering team to launch on-site work,
- You will make sure that customers satisfaction is met at all time and to the highest standard.
About you
- You hold a Master Degree in engineering or equivalent
- You have strong Account Management and Business Development skills
Skills and competencies
- Excellent technical knowledge in Construction with passion for wood work and architecture
- Full competency in Microsoft suits,
- Strong experience in Project Management dealing with Councils and Public entities and in tenders,
- You work autonomously with a “can do” attitude and an entrepreneurial mindset,
- You are a “people person” who can relate and negociate with key partners at all level,
- You are driven with strong organisational skills and strong ability to plan actions in line with the Export Director commercial strategy,
- Team player and rigourous.
Salary and Benefits
- Basic salary will depend on experience and will sit between £50 000 and £60 000/ annual basic salary per year + generous commissions structure.
