Design and construction of a gymnasium in Ercé-en-Lamée (France)
SMC2 has built a 45m x 25m gymnasium, designed to provide the best conditions for multi-sport activities such as volleyball, basketball and handball.
The sports structure was built using a mixed timber and steel framework. The roof and facades are made of a textile membrane, allowing the multi-sports hall to benefit from natural daylight thanks to the translucency of the textile membrane. The cladding is double-skinned metal with insulation and an interior micro-perforated panel. The gymnasium has 2 double doors and 6 bay windows, enhancing the interior light. The facades are screen-printed, to create a personalised structure that reflects the town’s image.
Everything has been designed to provide optimum comfort for players. As well as being translucent, the fabric is also flexible, preventing sound reverberation for acoustic comfort. Its white colour reflects the sun’s rays, enhancing thermal comfort.
