The VallyVellum: a new monumental structure in Guingamp
Guingamp now boasts a striking new architectural landmark: the VallyVellum, a monumental structure installed on the recently redeveloped Place du Vally. This unique work of architecture combines technical performance, aesthetics, and functionality—further enhancing the city’s appeal.
The VallyVellum takes the form of a 55-ton steel tripod, made up of three arches spanning 36 meters each. Rising 12 meters high, the structure creates a spectacular and airy silhouette in the heart of the city.
Covered with a tensioned grey textile membrane, the canopy extends over 1,296 m² (36 meters long by 36 meters wide). Its lightweight and translucent roof seems to float above the public space, providing both visual comfort and a strong architectural identity.
Designed as a truly multifunctional canopy, the structure—located near the bus station—now shelters the Vally parking area while offering a new public gathering and event space. Thanks to integrated lighting and sound rigs, the VallyVellum can easily accommodate a stage or host various cultural, festive, or community events.
Rainwater is collected through powder-coated steel gutters discreetly integrated into the structure, preserving its architectural elegance.
Beyond its technical prowess, the VallyVellum embodies the city’s ambition to reinvent Place du Vally by creating a modern, welcoming, and versatile public space. Both an architectural landmark and a functional facility, it strengthens Guingamp’s image as a dynamic city looking to the future.
