SMC2’S KNOW-HOW IN THE SERVICE OF EDUCATION

Wood construction school
16.06 2015

Combining the intrinsic performance of materials with environmentally friendly construction methods, SMC2 is able to respond favourably to the infrastructure needs of education and culture while ensuring the health and well-being of children. School, crèche, day care centre, library or student residence, discover the advantages of eco-design by SMC2!

A healthy environment
The eco-construction of schools and other cultural and educational buildings provides children with the best possible environment for their learning. Thanks to wood construction, they benefit from the positive values of ecology in a healthy environment (thermal insulation, acoustic comfort, hygrometric regulation for healthy air). Also, their health is at the heart of SMC2’s concerns with the use of materials with low volatile organic compound emissions (glues, coatings and paints).

Economical and ecological solutions
By using ecological materials with recognised energy performance, such as wood, SMC2 creates High Environmental Quality (HEQ) buildings. Also, by producing their own energy thanks to solar panels or double-flow recovery ventilation, they are passive and can achieve positive energy consumption (by producing more than they consume).
As eco-responsibility is at the heart of the projects, the infrastructures are built according to the principles of modular construction and dry construction, which reduce the duration of the building sites and the nuisances they cause. While respecting the environment, eco-design is more economical than traditional construction methods.

Architectural freedom
With its superior load-bearing capacity, timber architecture offers a freedom of form and creativity that no other material can provide. Large covered spaces can be built without the need for pillars or supporting walls apart from the four load-bearing walls. Many types of cladding can be used to dress the exterior in an aesthetic manner: metal, mineral, wood, composite, glazed, etc.
This material resistance, coupled with perfect air and water tightness, makes SMC2 constructions particularly suitable for cyclonic and seismic zones such as the French overseas departments and territories.
