GYMNASIUM – LA CHAIZE LE VICOMTE (FRANCE)

Design and construction of a gymnasium in La Chaize Le Vicomte, France

SMC2 has built the gymnasium in La Chaize Le Vicomte, measuring 29m x 45m. This sports facility was built with a mixture of timber and steel frame. The roofing is made of a textile membrane, as are the façades, which are screen-printed.

The use of wood and the textile membrane is preferred to offer optimal comfort to the sportsmen. The translucency of the textile membrane allows light to pass through for natural lighting during the day. Its flexibility limits the reverberation of sound for acoustic comfort. The white colour of the fabric allows the sun’s rays to be reflected, therefore prevents overheating.

Our company also took care of the rainwater management, the metal cladding on the outside and an acoustic plate on the long inside wall, the joinery with 2 double doors and the ventilation fans.  Acoustic panels were added to the roof, radiant heating was integrated above the stands and LEDs are used for the lighting of the sports hall in the evenings.
