PREOSPORT – VÉNISSIEUX (FRANCE)

Design and Build of a PreoSport facility primarily for futsal, in Vénissieux, France

SMC2 has designed and built a 1352m² covered sports facility primarily for futsal. The canopy structure has a glued-laminated timber and galvanized steel frame covered by a translucent tensile membrane roof. The structure’s facades are clad on 3 sides only using a microperforated tensile mesh at high level and louvered metal panels at low level. One gable-end has been silk-screen printed with the city’s logo.

Fans of Futsal in the town of Venissieux can now enjoy a sports arena combining brightness and protection against bad weather due to the translucency of the textile membrane covering. The membrane flexibility also allows the athletes to benefit from enhanced acoustics within the sports hall.

As the mayor of Vénissieux explained during her inauguration speech, “This free-access covered facility has been long awaited. It allows people to play futsal (as well as other sports) at any time and frees up availability in the city’s other sports halls. This project’s philosophy is in line with our policy for promoting inclusivity and democratizing sport for all.
